Tasting Menu at Dodger Stadium

UYIFE111Did I ever mention that I’m obsessed with the Los Angeles Dodgers?  Well I am.  So much so that we recently changed our cable company of many years because it no longer showed Dodger games.
JGFRR1 A few days ago I got a call from the Dodger’s front office asking me to come on down to the stadium to try out the new food items on the menu.  You could imagine my freaking utter happiness!

It’s very cool what Executive Chef Jason Tingley is doing for Dodger Stadium these days.  He’s revamping the food selection for those of us that are going to ballgames this summer and also want a little more to eat than just a Dodger Dog.  Not that there is anything wrong with the classic, beloved Dodger Dog.  25,000 Dodger Dogs are sold at every home game, an amazing number by any standards.  It’s just that now and again, food freaks like myself want a variety and oh man, is there a variety now!
TOMMY

First, with the new addition of the restaurant stand, Tommy Lasorda’s Trattoria, you can find things like artisan cheese pizza (inspired by Chef Jason’s trips to Portland, OR),  chicken pamasian sub, the meatball sub, and Tommy’s personal favoratite, meatballs and pasta to which Mr. Lasorda says tastes the closest to the way his mama used to make.

Let’s move on to the BBQ shall we?  Chef Jason Tingley really put out all the stops with his BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich.  He says he’s willing to challenge anyone in the city to a BBQ Beef Brisket cook off.  Yes, its that good!  The Japanese jidori chicken is pretty darn delish also.  It has a potent spicy kick to it… but nothing you couldn’t  handle.  Then there is the old fashioned, Mexican street elote (Roasted Corn.)  It has all the trimmings and topped with mayonese and seasonings.

Speaking of Latin flavors, the new Souveneer helmet nachos are to die for.  They are time honored with the ingredients:  Cheese, carne asada, beans, creama, toped off with a pico de gallo.  They went really well with the limited time “Cuban Dog.”  They’ll only serve them when they play the Miami Marlins but its so worth the wait.  They taste amazing with pulled pork, a piece of ham, a slice of cheese and a pickle on a dog.  Wow factor!  Chef Jason Tingley wanted to name it the “Puig Dog” but he didn’t want to hurt the rest of the player’s feelings.  (Awe…)

A funny story from this evening:  Druing my food tour, I kept saying to Chef Jason that there isn’t enough simple sweet offerings in the stadium.  I said that a Dodger cookie would be nice and that they should consider making them on a regular basis.  I’m sure I was bugging him to no end.  But after the tour was well over and we were deep into the Dodger game, at the 7th inning stretch, I was brought 5 freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that were made just for me by the chef!  I know, Im spoiled!

Oh BTW, the Dodgers won that night which was a nice capper to the amazing food-frenzied evening.  I highly recommend you give the new selects a try.  You won’t be sorry.

 GO BLUE!

Dodger BLUE Cheese Burger

Dodger BLUE Cheese Burger

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Chef Merito. All opinions are 100% mine, and it is an absolute pleasure and privilege to be associated with the official carne asada spice of my beloved team! VIVA LOS DODGERS!!!!

I am a true blue Dodger fan. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and have been making my way to Chavez Ravine for as long as I can remember. It started with my Momma who was head over heels in love with the Dodgers in the 70’s and 80’s…. the years of Steve Yeager, Ron Cey, and Steve Garvey.  Those were the first players I remember following. Everyone in my family bleeds Dodger blue. It is one of our favorite pastimes and we make it a point to enjoy as many games as possible.

Some things never change…. Fast forward to 2013 and I am still trekking up to the stadium to catch my boys in blue. When I am not in the thick of the crowd amongst the fans, then I am firmly cemented to my seat in front of the television set watching at home. I load up on snacks and make BLUE cheese burgers to celebrate my hometown team. I spice my  ground beef up with Chef Merito spices and grill my patties then top them with monterey jack and a pile of blue cheese. Chef Merito is the official carne asada seasoning for the Dodgers, but I’m here to tell you the meat seasoning taste great on burgers too. Whether at home or at the game…. I just love celebrating my boys of summer. Don’t miss Viva Los Dodgers every Sunday home game, 2 hours before the national anthem is belted out…. Chef Merito is one of the sponsors, and it is a great afternoon of fun, food, and entertainment.

Trident- See What Unfolds

I never walk places alone…. But Saturday night had me feeling brave. I was at the Dodger game with my family and naturally instagraming and tweeting my where abouts, when I got a text from a friend saying she was at the stadium as well and wanted to say “Hi.”  I couldn’t pull any of my family members from their glued seats to accompany me to walk over and meet my friend.  I thought “I’ll just go by myself, it’ll be a little adventure.”  I popped a piece of Trident Layers Wild Strawberry + Tangy Citrus chewing gum in my mouth and dashed up the stairs to the top of the field area, found the nearest stairwell and the next thing you know I was doing the seventh inning stretch with my oldest girlfriend.  It felt good to recite “take me out to the ball game” at the top of my lungs, and even better to do it in fond company.  It’s in those minutes that you feel connected and full of life.  We kissed goodbye and promised to see eachother soon.  As I walked back to my seat to meet my family, I was so high on the winning energy of the stadium and on having a moment to be silly alone…. I burst into song singing out loud not caring who could hear or who was witnessing my strut.  I pretended to be John Travolta in  “Saturday Night Fever”  singing  “You can tell by the way I use my walk I’m a woman’s man, no time to talk.”  I guess you could say I was feeling sassy.  I guess you could say it was the gum chewing and living in the moment.

I dare you to do the same, take a path you wouldn’t normally take and see what unfolds. These people here on the subway are living it up “All Night Long.”
