I got my craft kit for LA Soundscapes Craft Workshop ‘Draw Your Feelings.’ Some of you may not know what I’m talking about. The Ford in conjunction with LA Soundscapes has these cool family friendly workshops that are free to anyone (children and adults) interested in participating. I just signed up for the Draw Your Feelings workshop taught by artist, writer, and performer Nasimeh B E and inspired by BLUE13 – The Bollywood Beats Dance Company! Here’s the really cool part, the first 50 people to sign up will receive the necessary supplies for the workshop from The Ford at no cost to you. Deadline to sign up for the free supplies is November 6th (in order to mail it out on time).
It works like this.
- You sign up for a workshop.
- The Ford send you supplies for free.
- You join the workshop and learn from an expert.
- Then you stick around for the dance/performance the workshop was inspired by.
- Since it’s virtual anyone in the United States can join!
I am just super excited to be involved with this awesome series. As an Los Angeles native I have grown up going to The Ford theater to watch some of my favorite musicians perform. Even though we are unable to gather for concerts or performance art during this time, I think it is such a gift that they are still providing arts to our city through this program.
Here’s the Draw Your Feelings Workshop Info:

I was inspired by this cool activity and wanted to enhance the experience further so I made a Bollywood Popcorn Bowl to snack on while I draw and while I watch Blue13 perform.
Ingredients for Bollywood Popcorn Bowl:
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
Directions:
- In a small bowl mix turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, coriander, and salt together. Set to the side until ready to use.
- Add oil to a heavy bottom pot over a medium high flame.
- Allow oil to get hot.
- To test the oil add in 4 popcorn kernels. Once the popcorn kernels pop it’s time to add in the rest of the kernels.
- Mix the kernels into the oil to quickly coat.
- Cover the pot with a lid and keep it slightly ajar if possible to avoid your popcorn from being chewy.
- Gently shake the pot back and forth over the flame to avoid burning.
- Shake until you no longer hear the kernels moving back and forth, then you know it’s done.
- Remove from flame.
- Rattle pot a few more times in the event that a few kernels still may need to pop! This will keep popcorn from flying all over your kitchen.
- Sprinkle spices over the top of popcorn and mix to combine.
- Serve in a bowl and enjoy!
