A few days ago I was at Walmart looking for some summer water toys and wandered into the grocery section of the store in need of butter. Max (my 8 year old son, soon to be 9) has been asking to get more involved in the kitchen, I figured I may as well loosen my apron strings a little bit and teach him some basics. As a closeted helicopter mom, I thought a crispy grilled cheese sandwich would be a good starting point. I stood in front of the wall of butter, my eyes narrowed in on the new Land O Lakes® Soft Squeeze™ Spread. I studied the new product and thought “Easy to squeeze bottle with less mess, made with real butter, will stay clean and crumb-free, will be perfect for his small hands!”
Once I got home I told my son we could officially start our first kitchen lesson. Since he loves crispy grilled cheese sandwiches, he was thrilled to hear this would be our introductory tutorial. I set up the table with the new Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread, bread, and cheese. I showed him how easy it is to squeeze the Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread onto the outside of the bread and how to stack the center of the sandwich with cheese. Then I let him build his own. He CAREFULLY placed the sandwich into a hot pan and I tried to just give him instruction without getting my hands involved. I’d say our instructional exercise was a great success and one I’ll allow for him to practice! Hopefully by the time school starts he’ll be able to make his own grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. Who knew that these simple cooking lessons could lead to bigger responsibilities. Next I’ll teach him to make eggs, pancakes, and maybe even corn. He could use the new Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread for all those dishes, it’s the product I didn’t know I needed, but now can’t live without.
Ingredients for Easiest Crispy Grilled Cheese Sandwich:
- New Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread
- Sourdough bread
- Cheddar Cheese
Directions:
- Squeeze 1/2 tablespoon of Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread on one bread. Then smear the spread evenly with a butter knife.
- Flip the bread over to the non-buttered side and layer with 2 -3 slices of cheese.
- Squeeze 1/2 tablespoon of Land O’ Lakes Soft Squeeze Spread on other bread slice. Then smear the spread evenly with a butter knife.
- Place bread on top of cheese, buttered side up.
- Place a frying pan over a medium high flame and allow pan to get hot.
- Carefully place assembled sandwich into pan and cook on each side for 3 minutes or until golden crisp.
